There are many options when cleaning your gun. You could use the rod and patch, drop through bore cleaners or even no cleaning at all. No cleaning?
Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen but some people believe this to be true. Talking to many professional gun smiths there is no right way to clean your gun but you should clean it regularly. Whatever way works for you that is the preferred way.
I myself will clean my gun bore after any hunting trip, trap shoot, if I fired even a few rounds or if my gun became wet. The rod and patch was my choice for the longest of time. When I was a kid my dad would look on with apprehension waiting for me to put a sizable scratch in the bore. To me this was a great clean but very tedious. I used the bore snake as I got older because I liked the quick clean and it seemed to do pretty good. I had to run it several times as the snake seemed to miss some of the fouling and debris. I never could figure out the use of the bronze wire and was worried of scratching the bore if i did not stay tight to the sock. The smell of the snake after awhile was like “whew do not go in there” type of smell. The snake sock smell never seems to leave. My brother uses the Otis system and says it does pretty well. He likes the portability of the product. Otis is kind of a flexible rod and patch system. Both of these drop through bore cleaners have a loyal following.
My business partner and I have brought a new bore cleaner onto the market. The product is Gun Mouse. Why the Gun Mouse? Yes it is a drop through bore cleaner but that is where the similarities end. The difference is the Gun Mouse material. This specially made nylon material will catch and hold all the fouling and debris from sliding down the bore eliminating possible damage. You will use less cleaner, oils or chemicals then normal due to the effectiveness of the material. The material is abrasive for cleaning so there is no need for brushes or wires. The protective tube is a nice bonus as it keeps the smell out of whatever you choose to carry the Gun Mouse in. The Gun Mouse comes in every size from 17 cal. to the shotgun. The shotguns can ever come in custom colors if you so desire.
We are now assembling a Gun Mouse pro staff. Aaron Willoughby, Hiviz shooting systems pro staff team member gave this testimonial:
“The Gun Mouse Bore Cleaner is a necessity for any shotgun shooter! I have used several gun cleaning products since I began trapshooting in 1996, and nothing cleans faster and more effectively than the Gun Mouse. It is a must for every shooter!”
Please watch the video to give what the Gun Mouse does and how effective it is at gun bore. Whichever way you choose to clean your gun bore(s) enjoy the outdoors and happy shooting!!!
